The Union City Police Department sponsored “Union City Borough Clean-Up the Streets Day” on Saturday, May 20, 2017. Police Chief David Pernice said “It went pretty well. I would have liked to see more people participate, but we had a group of people who really worked hard.”

The primary focus was along the three state routes that go through Union City. “We kept our attention to Routes 6, 8 and 97,” Pernice said. “My hope was that this event would inspire people to care more about their community and strive to keep it clean,” he said. “I still hope that this can be accomplished. It’s a great community and doesn’t need to be dragged down by litter.”

“This was a great way to bring people together,” Pernice said. “For our first-time we didn’t have a lot of people, but I hope that changes in the future.” Pernice said he and the department would like to make this an annual event. “Right now, we’re confident that we can do it bigger and better next year,” he said. “It’d be nice to see this turn into something that people look forward to each year.”
